Australian women beat US 1-0 in Tournament of Nations

Well, well !! What a result for Australia...

It’s the first time in 27 games that Australians managed to get over the USA, & it appears to be a watershed moment for the team. Their improvement continues rapidly & the outcome proved that they hold what it takes to mix it with the very best in the world.

On Thursday night, during the Tournament of Nations, Tameka Butt, an Australian players had scored in the 67th minute and Australia finally beat the United States for the first time in the 28-game series, 1-0 in the tournament.

The Matildas also cracked the Americans' four-game winning series.

As after the minute, Butt's goal got over, Alyssa Naeher, Carli Lloyd, the goalkeepers; had blasted a cross from Megan Rapinoe at Australia goalkeeper Lydia Williams, who had delivered an outstanding save. Lloyd had got this another chance that had sailed just over the net.

At CenturyLink Field, in the tournament’s opening game, Japan and Brazil had played to a 1-1 draw in the match.

The four teams in the tournament are in the top 10 of the FIFA rankings. The top most ranked United States team proceed into the game with a 25-0-2 record over the seventh-ranked Matildas.

Rapinoe, an amercian player, who plays for the NWSL's Seattle Reign was having a good possibililty in the game but the Americans were unable to crack through. Rapinoe has 12 goals to guide the NWSL in scoring this season.

From the past several years, Matildas have been on the rise, with having quarterfinal presence in both the 2015 World Cup & in the Olympics last year.

The tournament shifts to San Diego on Sunday after the break in Seattle, back winding up in Carson, California on Aug 3.

Further the US Soccer is considering to host every summer a Tournament of Nations so that there is no either World Cup or Olympic competition.
